Setting Goals

Have you ever wanted something so bad you couldn’t stand it? A car? That shirt? What about a goal?

When I was 18 I had one goal: to go to college and graduate. Four years later, I completed my goal with one of the best feelings I ever had: Being proud of myself. Unfortunately this wasn't at all easy, but one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. That is really what any goal is though; When you really want it, it is one of the hardest things you are ever going to do. The more you want something, the harder it always seems to get it. 

Now we believe having a real, obtainable goal is more than just saying you are going to do something without actually working towards it. A goal is something you are working towards that is going to better you in the future, and when you achieve it, you can look back and say that you did it. But how do we set goals? And better yet, how do we achieve something? 

  1. Think about your goal and why you want it. Why is this so important to me? If I did this, what would the benefits be? It is important to make sure when you are setting a goal that you don’t let others set for you. This is about you and your time, therefore you are the only one that can achieve it.
  2. Write it down. Over and over. Like... don’t ever put the pencil down.
  3. Get a support system. Who are some people that really care about me that would push me to do this? You always want people behind you that are constantly encouraging, and can even help steer you when you have forgotten what you’re doing. 
  4. Don’t quit. Ever. Yes, it is hard. No one said it was going to be easy... but think about how bad you want it. 

Think about how good it is going to feel when you finally start that new business. Think about how good you’re going to feel when you lose those 10 pounds. Think about how proud you are going to be of yourself when you’re able to pay off your debt. There are so many challenges and obstacles in life, but once you overcome them, you are going to feel on top of the world. Happy goal setting!
