Body Positivity

Bodies. We all have one. Am I too fat? Am I too skinny? My nose is really big and I hate the way my smile looks when I laugh. Now that I am thinking of it, I think my right arm is bigger than my left arm and I think it looks weird. Do I walk normal? Are people staring at me because I am hot or because I am ugly? Wait my ass looks really good in these jeans though... but my waist is too big for them.

Ever had any of these thoughts? Ever looked at your body in complete disgust? Unfortunately, we all have. This is a very common thing that I think nobody directly enjoys talking about. In our past blogs we have talked about being authentic and staying true to ourselves. We have already addressed that we are constantly showing images of picture-perfect beauty and what we “should” look like. We are given one body, one life, one choice. With that being said, how can we be positive about the body we have been given?

Someone was joking with me the other day and said “Wanna feel good about your body? Get naked. You look amazing.” Believe it or not it brought up my self-esteem. When I truly think about it, I don’t even understand why body positivity is a thing—hear me out. We all have bodies, therefore what deems a body a good or bad one? I truly believe that the only reason we feel bad about what we look like is the simple fact of being raised in a society that wants us to look and be perfect. What do I say to that? Hell no! Your stretch marks are gorgeous, you have carried life. Your skinny arms? They fit perfectly against mine.

Positivity is radiant. If you are someone who wants to be authentic and truly love yourself, that means all of yourself. Stay clear from demeaning words and don’t bring yourself down. Don’t compare yourself—to other people or who you used to be. The biggest thing that has helped me with my body positivity is to focus on actually looking good: exercising to make myself physically and mentally feel good, not look good. Wearing the things I want to wear, not to physically look good but to feel confident. What makes you feel confident and strong about your body? What can you do today to make yourself feel good about where your body is at?

Just like my friend said, get naked. You see that? You look fantastic.
